What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy for Horses and Riders

Physical Therapy uses manual, hands-on techniques, exercises and treatments to restore, maintain or improve movement and physical function. While physical therapy for humans has been around since the 1800s, equine or horse physical therapy is a relatively new and growing profession. Trained equine physical therapists use techniques such as biomechanical assessment, joint mobilizations, stretching, proprioception/balance, therapeutic exercise and modalities to provide rehabilitation and/or enhance performance based on the specific needs of the horse. Rider physical therapy uses the same techniques and will evaluate any biomechanical impairments that could be causing the rider pain and/or effecting the performance of the horse. Addressing these impairments is the key to solving a musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular imbalance.

Our goal at Horse and Rider Physical Therapy is to have our treatments create a lasting effect on the horse and rider by restoring correct movement patterns to help prevent or recover from an injury and enhance overall performance.

Disclaimer: Only bodywork, massage and performance enhancement sessions will be provided for the horse. At this time no rehabilitation services will be provided.
